4°-misoriented Si(100) vicinals are characterized by a single domain (2x1) reconstruction. This structure is energetically favoured due to the intrinsic strain of the dimer reconstruction. (2x1) terraces are separated by double steps which build up a regular step array with a high degree of long-range order. This is evident from integral order beams which are split up in sharp and equidistant spots along the tilting direction. A spot splitting of 10% of the surface Brillouin zone indicates a terrace length of 39 Å.
