Research Topics
Our research activities focus on experimental solid-state physics. The following topics are currently of interest:
Thin films: Growth and magnetic properties of ultrathin films of a few monolayers thickness are studied by various methods such as electron diffraction, scanning probe techniques, and magneto-optic spectroscopy. In addition to thin films, we study the properties of magnetic nanoparticles using the same methods.
Near-field optics: In near-field optics, the classical diffraction limit is circumvented by using very small apertures as light source. We have developed a polarization-sensitive scanning near-field optical microscope in order to investigate magnetic and optical properties on a nanometer scale. Furthermore, the method is applied to biological systems.
